- Wrong cycle selected for a bulky load
How to fix the OL code
Step 1: Remove some items
Wait for the washer to drain, then take out several items.
Step 2: Load loosely
Spread the clothes evenly around the washplate. Do not pack them down.
Step 3: Restart the cycle
Add HE detergent, close the lid and press Start/Pause. For comforters, use the Bulky/Sheets cycle.
When to call a technician
No repair is usually needed. Call a technician only if OL shows with a small load.
Models this applies to
- Front-load washers (MHW series, including Maxima)
- Top-load HE washers (MVW series, including Bravos)
- Older Centennial top-load washers with electronic controls
Codes can differ slightly between models. Your owner's manual is the final word and is available from Maytag support.
Common questions
›Why did my Maytag washer drain the water after OL?
That is normal. It drains the water and detergent so you can lighten the load and start again.
›Do I need to add detergent again after OL?
Yes. Maytag says to add HE detergent before restarting, since the first dose was drained.
