The top-load washer is not draining as it should. A kinked hose or a drain hose set up wrong at the standpipe is the most common cause.
Likely causes
Listed from most to least common.
- Drain hose kinked or clogged
- Drain hose more than 4.5 inches into the standpipe
- Drain hose end too high or too low
- House drain or utility sink pipe blocked
- Drain pump blocked or failed
How to fix the drn code
Step 1: Check the drain hose
Pull the washer out and straighten any kinks. Make sure nothing is pinching the hose against the wall.
Step 2: Set the hose depth
Use the U-shaped hose form so only about 4.5 inches of hose is in the standpipe. Do not tape it in place.
Step 3: Check the house drain
Pour a bucket of water into the standpipe or sink. If it backs up, the house drain is blocked.
Step 4: Clear and restart
Press Start/Pause to clear the code, then run Drain and Spin.
You'll need: Bucket, towels, flashlight.
Parts that may need replacing
