The freezer temperature has risen too high and frozen food may be thawing. A door held open by a package or a lot of door opening is the usual cause.
Likely causes
Listed from most to least common.
- A package holding the freezer door open
- Doors opened often or left open
- Large load of warm food added at once
- Torn or dirty door gasket
- Cooling system problem
How to fix the FF code
Unplug the refrigerator or switch it off at the breaker before removing any panel or filter.
Step 1: Check your frozen food
Look for food that has started to thaw. Throw out anything that was above 40°F for more than 2 hours.
Step 2: Close the door fully
Make sure no package or bin is keeping the freezer door from sealing. Open it only when you must.
Step 3: Let it recover
Give the freezer a few hours to get back near 0°F. Once it does, press System Check or Reset, or unplug the fridge for 1 minute, to clear the code.
Step 4: Check the door seal
Close the door on a sheet of paper. If it slides out easily, clean the gasket with warm soapy water or have it replaced.
You'll need: Freezer thermometer.
Parts that may need replacing
Check your model number on the label inside the door or on the back before ordering.

Common questions
›Why won't the FF code go away when I press reset?
On GE's diagnostic display, FF only clears after the freezer is cold again. Wait for it to cool, then press reset.
›Is my frozen food safe after an FF code?
Food that still has ice crystals is usually safe to refreeze. Throw out anything that was fully thawed and above 40°F for over 2 hours.
