How to fix the Leak Detected code
Step 1: Check for leaks
Look around the filter housing for water. Wipe it dry and note where it is coming from.
Step 2: Reinstall the filter
Remove the filter and put it back with the FRONT label facing out. If you see BACK, the filter is in backward.
Step 3: Check the filter is genuine
A real RPWFE filter has an ID chip under the label marked This side must face inward. Without the chip, the filter will not work.
Step 4: Replace or bypass the filter
Install a new genuine RPWFE filter. If you want to run without a filter, use GE's bypass plug, which GE offers free at 1-800-GE-CARES.
You'll need: Towels, flashlight.
Parts that may need replacing
Check your model number on the label inside the door or on the back before ordering.

Common questions
›Can I reset the Leak Detected message myself?
On most models it cannot be reset by hand. It clears once a correctly installed genuine filter or bypass plug is in place.
›Why did a new filter cause this message?
Aftermarket filters often lack the RFID chip GE's fridge reads, so the dispenser shuts off. Use a genuine RPWFE filter.
