- Time

- $150–$350
On 2015 and newer top-loaders, Po means the washer took too long to drain, usually from a clog. Models without a display flash the Rinse light.
Likely causes
Listed from most to least common.
- Drain hose kinked or clogged
- Drain hose end more than 8 feet above the floor
- House standpipe or drain clogged
- Small item such as a sock blocking the pump
- Drain pump failed
How to fix the Po code
Unplug the washer or switch it off at the breaker before removing any panel or filter.
Step 1: Wait a few minutes
GE notes that pauses of up to 3 minutes between cycle steps are normal. Make sure the washer has really stopped draining.
Step 2: Unplug and check the hose
Unplug the washer. Pull it out carefully and straighten any kinks in the drain hose. Check that the hose end is no more than 8 feet above the floor.
Step 3: Test the house drain
Take the hose out of the standpipe and pour about a quart of water into the standpipe. If it backs up, the house drain is clogged and needs a plumber.
Step 4: Run Drain & Spin
Put the hose back, plug the washer in and run Drain & Spin.
You'll need: Towels, bucket, flashlight.

When to call a technician
If the hose and house drain are clear but the tub stays full and the washer only hums, the drain pump likely needs replacing. GE advises booking service.

Common questions
›What does a flashing Rinse light mean on a GE washer?
On 2015 and newer top-loaders without a full display, it means the same as Po: the washer took too long to drain.
›Does my GE top-loader have a pump filter?
Most GE top-loaders do not have a filter you can reach. Only models with a small access door at the bottom front have one.
