The oven is getting an abnormal reading from a temperature sensor, so it cannot control the heat. The usual cause is a failed oven sensor or a loose sensor connection.

Likely causes

Listed from most to least common.

  1. Faulty oven temperature sensor
  2. Loose or damaged sensor wiring or connector
  3. Sensor damaged during cleaning or rack removal
  4. Control board fault

How to fix the C-22 code

Unplug the oven or switch it off at the breaker before removing any panel or filter.

  1. Step 1: Turn the oven off and on

Press Off or Power, wait a few seconds, then turn the oven back on and try again.

  2. Step 2: Reset at the breaker

If the code returns, switch off the circuit breaker for the range for at least 30 seconds, then turn it back on.

  3. Step 3: Look at the sensor

With the oven off and cool, look at the thin metal probe on the inside back wall of the oven. If it is bent or touching the oven wall, the sensor may need replacing.

You'll need: Flashlight.

Parts that may need replacing

Check your model number on the label inside the door or on the back before ordering.

When to call a technician

Call a technician if the code returns after a breaker reset. Testing the sensor and its wiring means working behind the range panels.

A typical repair for this code costs $150–$350 in the US, including parts and labor. Prices vary by area and model.

Models this applies to

  • Electric, gas and induction ranges (NE, NX and NSI series)
  • Flex Duo ranges with oven divider
  • Slide-in and freestanding ranges
  • Single and double wall ovens (NV series)

Codes can differ slightly between models. Your owner's manual is the final word and is available from Samsung support.

Common questions

›What is the difference between C-21 and C-22 on a Samsung oven?

C-21 means the sensor says the oven is too hot. C-22 means the sensor reading itself looks wrong, which usually points to a faulty sensor or connection.

›Can I use the cooktop with a C-22 code?

Often yes, because the code is about the oven sensor. Avoid using the oven until the code clears or it is repaired.
