The dishwasher detected too much water in the tub. This is usually a drain problem, a clogged filter or too many suds.

Likely causes

Listed from most to least common.

  1. Filter or sump clogged with food waste
  2. Drain hose kinked or blocked
  3. Too many suds from hand dish soap or too much detergent
  4. Dishwasher not level
  5. Water inlet valve stuck open

How to fix the OC code

  1. Step 1: Turn off the dishwasher

Switch it off and scoop any standing water out of the bottom with a cup and sponge.

  2. Step 2: Clean the filter and sump

Remove the bottom rack, twist the filter counterclockwise, lift it out and rinse it. Wipe out any debris in the sump below.

  3. Step 3: Check the drain hose

Look under the sink for kinks or a blocked garbage disposal connection and clear them.

  4. Step 4: Check the detergent

Use only dishwasher detergent. If you see suds, wipe them out and run a Rinse cycle with no detergent.

  5. Step 5: Run a short cycle

Refit the filter, turn on the dishwasher and run a quick cycle to see if the code returns.

You'll need: Cup and sponge, flashlight.

Parts that may need replacing

Check your model number on the label inside the door or on the back before ordering.

When to call a technician

If water keeps filling with the dishwasher off, or OC returns after cleaning the drain path, the inlet valve or water level sensor needs a technician.

A typical repair for this code costs $120–$300 in the US, including parts and labor. Prices vary by area and model.

Models this applies to

  • DW80 series dishwashers
  • Bespoke and StormWash models

Codes can differ slightly between models. Your owner's manual is the final word and is available from Samsung support.

Common questions

›Is OC the same as OE on a Samsung dishwasher?

Yes. Both mean the water level is too high. Some displays show it as 0C or oE.

›Can too much soap cause an OC code?

Yes. Suds can fool the water level sensor. Use only dishwasher detergent and the recommended amount.
