CL is not a fault. It means the child lock is switched on, so the control buttons do not respond. Hold the child lock button for 3 seconds to turn it off.
Likely causes
Listed from most to least common.
- Child lock was switched on, often by accident when pressing two buttons together
How to fix the CL code
Step 1: Find the child lock button
Look for a small lock symbol on the panel. On many LG washers it is printed under or beside another button, such as Temp and Spin, or Rinse + Spin.
Step 2: Press and hold for 3 seconds
Hold the button (or button pair) for about 3 seconds while the washer is on. CL disappears and the buttons work again.
When to call a technician
No repair is needed. If the buttons still do not respond after turning off child lock, unplug the washer for a minute and try again.
Models this applies to
- Front-load washers (WM series)
- Top-load washers (WT series)
- WashTower and washer-dryer combos
Codes can differ slightly between models. Your owner's manual is the final word and is available from LG support.
