The dishwasher has detected too many suds. This is usually caused by hand dish soap or too much detergent, and you can clear it yourself.
Likely causes
Listed from most to least common.
- Hand dish soap used instead of dishwasher detergent
- Too much liquid detergent
- Dishes rinsed with dish soap and not rinsed off
- Faulty sensor if there are no suds
How to fix the bE code
Step 1: Check your detergent
Use only dishwasher detergent. If you use liquid, use a small amount, or switch to powder or pods.
Step 2: Remove the suds
Set rinse aid to L0. With no detergent, put a bowl with about 1 cup of milk on the upper rack.
Step 3: Run a rinse cycle
Run a Normal cycle with Extra Dry and Rinse. Repeat if suds remain, then reset your rinse aid level.
Step 4: Test without detergent
Run an empty cycle with no detergent. If bE shows with no suds, the dishwasher needs service.
You'll need: Bowl, milk.
Parts that may need replacing

Models this applies to
- LDF, LDT and LDP series
- QuadWash and TrueSteam models
Codes can differ slightly between models. Your owner's manual is the final word and is available from LG support.
Common questions
›Why does milk help clear suds?
The fat in milk breaks down soap bubbles, so the rinse cycle can flush them out. LG recommends this method.
›Can I just wipe out the suds?
You can sponge out the worst, but run the milk rinse too. Soap left in the pump and hoses will foam again.
