Power to the refrigerator was cut off or surged. The code is a notice, not a fault. It usually follows a storm, a tripped breaker or a loose plug, and it may also set off the high temperature alarm.

Likely causes

Listed from most to least common.

  1. Power outage
  2. Power surge
  3. Tripped breaker or GFCI outlet
  4. Loose plug or worn outlet

How to fix the PF code

Unplug the refrigerator or switch it off at the breaker before removing any panel or filter.

  1. Step 1: Clear the alarm

Once power is back, press Alarm Reset or Clear Alerts. The refrigerator goes back to normal operation.

  2. Step 2: Check the temperatures

If the outage was long, the high temperature alarm may stay on until the unit cools down. Check food with a thermometer.

  3. Step 3: Check the plug and breaker

If PF shows with no known outage, make sure the plug is fully seated and the breaker is not tripping. Avoid extension cords.

When to call a technician

If PF keeps appearing with no outage, have an electrician check the outlet and circuit. If the outlet is fine, the refrigerator's power supply needs service.

Models this applies to

  • Gallery and Professional French door refrigerators
  • Side-by-side refrigerators
  • Bottom-freezer refrigerators

Codes can differ slightly between models. Your owner's manual is the final word and is available from Frigidaire support.

Common questions

›Does PF mean my refrigerator is broken?

No. It just tells you the power went out at some point. Clear it and check that the unit is cooling.

›Why is the high temperature light on with PF?

The sections warmed up while the power was off. The high temperature alert clears once they are cold again.
