An ice cube has been stuck in the ice chute for too long, so the dispenser stops working and an alarm sounds. It is usually caused by clumped ice or a frozen chute door, often after the dispenser has not been used for a while.
Likely causes
Listed from most to least common.
- Ice cube stuck in the chute
- Ice cubes frozen together in the bin
- Chute door frozen shut
- Ice bin not seated correctly
How to fix the DI SP code
Step 1: Clear the chute
Open the door and look up into the ice chute. Remove any stuck cubes by hand or with a plastic utensil. Do not use a knife.
Step 2: Empty the ice bin
Take out the ice bin and break up or discard any clumps. Let the bin warm to room temperature, dry it and put it back firmly.
Step 3: Test the dispenser
Close the door, wait for new ice, and dispense a few cubes into a glass.
You'll need: Plastic utensil, towel.
When to call a technician
If the chute is clear and the code returns, a technician should check the ice dispenser motor, auger and chute door.
Models this applies to
- Gallery and Professional French door refrigerators
- Side-by-side refrigerators
- Bottom-freezer refrigerators
Codes can differ slightly between models. Your owner's manual is the final word and is available from Frigidaire support.
Common questions
›Why does ice keep clumping in my bin?
Ice that sits unused melts slightly and refreezes. Use the dispenser often or empty the bin every week or two.
›Will the ice maker keep making ice during DI SP?
It may, but the dispenser will not work until the jam is cleared. Empty the bin so it does not overfill with clumped ice.
