LG refrigerator Er gF code: water flow sensor error
Also shown as gF

- About 15 min
- Repair cost
- $150–$300
The water flow sensor is reading no flow or the wrong flow. It is usually a closed supply valve, a kinked water line or water pressure outside LG's range, rather than a failed part.
Likely causes
Listed from most to least common.
- Water supply valve closed or only partly open
- Water line kinked behind the fridge
- Water pressure too low or too high
- Clogged water filter
- Flow sensor failed
How to fix the Er gF code
Unplug the refrigerator or switch it off at the breaker before removing any panel or filter.
Step 1: Reset the refrigerator
Unplug the refrigerator for 60 seconds and plug it into a wall outlet, not a power strip. Allow up to 5 minutes for it to restart.
Step 2: Open the water supply
Make sure the shutoff valve feeding the fridge is fully open and the water line is not kinked when you push the fridge back.
Step 3: Check the water pressure
LG fridges need 20 to 120 psi, or 40 to 120 psi on models with a water filter. If the ice tray overfills, partly close the supply valve to lower the pressure.
Step 4: Replace an old filter
If the water filter is more than 6 months old, replace it, as a clogged filter cuts flow.
You'll need: Flashlight.
Parts that may need replacing
Check your model number on the label inside the door or on the back before ordering.

When to call a technician
If the valve is open, the line is clear and pressure is in range but gF still shows, the flow sensor or inlet valve needs service.
A typical repair for this code costs $150–$300 in the US, including parts and labor. Prices vary by area and model.
Models this applies to
- French door refrigerators (LF, LR and LM series)
- Side-by-side refrigerators (LS and LRS series)
- InstaView Door-in-Door models
- Linear and inverter linear compressor models
Codes can differ slightly between models. Your owner's manual is the final word and is available from LG support.
Common questions
›Can a new water filter cause a gF code?
It can if the filter is not seated fully or has trapped air. Reseat the filter and dispense a few glasses of water to purge the air.
›Why is my ice maker overfilling with a gF code?
Water pressure may be too high, or the flow sensor may be misreading. Partly close the supply valve and see if it improves.
