LG oven F9 code: oven not heating properly
Also shown as F19

- Moderate DIY
- Time
- About 15 min
- Repair cost
- $150–$400
The oven did not heat up as expected after preheating started. LG says this usually means it failed to reach about 150°F within five minutes. A failed bake element, gas igniter or relay board is the usual cause.
Likely causes
Listed from most to least common.
- Bake element burned out (electric models)
- Weak or failed igniter (gas models)
- Gas supply to the range turned off
- Faulty relay on the main control board
- Loose wiring or connector to the element or igniter
- Oven door left open during preheat
How to fix the F9 code
Unplug the oven or switch it off at the breaker before removing any panel or filter.
Step 1: Clear the code
Press Clear/Off, or turn the oven mode knob to Off on knob models, to stop the beeping.
Step 2: Reset power at the breaker
Switch off the breaker for the range for 3 to 5 minutes, then switch it back on.
Step 3: Look at the bake element
On electric models, once the oven is cold, look at the bottom element. Blisters, breaks or burn marks mean it has failed.
Step 4: Check the gas supply
On gas models, make sure the cooktop burners light. If they do not, the gas may be off to the range. If you smell gas, leave the home and call your gas company.
Step 5: Test with the door closed
Start Bake at 350°F with the door fully closed and check that the oven warms within a few minutes.
You'll need: Flashlight.
Parts that may need replacing
Check your model number on the label inside the door or on the back before ordering.

When to call a technician
Call a technician if F9 returns after a power reset, if the element looks fine, or on any gas model. Igniter, gas valve and control board work should be done by a pro.
A typical repair for this code costs $150–$400 in the US, including parts and labor. Prices vary by area and model.
Models this applies to
- Electric and gas ranges (LRE, LRG, LSE, LSG series)
- InstaView and ProBake slide-in ranges
- Induction ranges (LSIL, LSIS series)
- Single and double wall ovens (WSEP, WDEP series)
Codes can differ slightly between models. Your owner's manual is the final word and is available from LG support.
Common questions
›What is the difference between F9 and F19 on an LG oven?
Both mean the oven is not heating properly. F9 usually refers to the upper or main oven and F19 to the oven heating check on some newer models, so the checks are the same.
›Can I still use the cooktop with an F9 code?
Often yes, since the cooktop has separate heating parts. Clear the code first, and stop using the range if the code keeps coming back.
