What the LO code means

LO on a Danby window air conditioner has two meanings. On models such as the DAC060EB7WDB, Danby says it means the room is colder than 32°F (0°C). On larger models such as the DAC180EB2WDB and DAC250EB2WDB, Danby lists LO as a temperature sensor error.

On smaller Danby window units the display can only show room temperatures in a set range. Below 32°F it shows LO instead of a number. That is most likely in a cold sunroom, cottage or garage, or when a unit is left in the window as the weather turns.

On the larger DAC180 and DAC250 models, Danby lists LO alongside HI as a temperature sensor error. In that case, a reset is the first step, then service if it persists.

Common causes

Listed from most to least common.

  1. Room or window area below 32°F, for example a unit left in over winter
  2. Cold outdoor air leaking in around the unit
  3. Temperature sensor fault (on DAC180 and DAC250 models)
  4. Brief power glitch

How to fix the LO code

Unplug the air conditioner or switch it off at the breaker before removing any panel or filter.

  1. Step 1: Check the room temperature

If the room really is near freezing, LO is a reading, not a fault. Warm the room and the display should go back to normal.

  2. Step 2: Unplug the unit

If the room is warm, turn the unit off, unplug it and let it stand for 5 to 10 minutes, as Danby advises for its error codes.

  3. Step 3: Restore power

Plug the unit back in and turn it on. Check whether the display shows a normal temperature.

  4. Step 4: Call for service if it persists

If LO stays on in a warm room, the sensor needs checking. Call Danby Consumer Care.

How to reset the Danby air conditioner

  1. Turn the air conditioner off with the remote or the control panel.
  2. Unplug the unit and leave it for 5 to 10 minutes, as Danby's manuals advise.
  3. Plug it back in and turn it on. The compressor normally waits a few minutes before starting, so give it time before judging.
  4. If the same code comes back, the fault is still there. Work through the fix steps above, or call Danby Consumer Care at 1-800-263-2629.

When to call a technician

If LO shows in a normally heated room after a reset, a technician needs to test the temperature sensor. If the room really is below freezing, no repair is needed.

A typical repair for this code costs Up to $300 in the US, including parts and labor. Prices vary by area and model.

Models this applies to

Codes can differ slightly between models. Your owner's manual is the final word and is available from Danby support.
