Whirlpool refrigerator PO code: power outage

The power to the refrigerator was off and the freezer warmed to 18°F or higher. It is an alert, not a fault. The usual cause is a power cut, a tripped breaker or the plug being pulled.

How to fix the PO code

Unplug the refrigerator or switch it off at the breaker before removing any panel or filter.

   Step 1: Confirm the alert

   Press any button to stop the tone. On many models you then press MEASURED FILL under the blinking Confirm to clear PO. The display returns to normal.

   Step 2: Check the food

   The freezer reached at least 18°F. Throw away food that has thawed and sat warm. If in doubt, throw it out.

   Step 3: Check the power supply

   If you did not have a power cut, make sure the plug is fully in the outlet and the breaker has not tripped. Reset a GFCI outlet if one is used.

   Step 4: Let it cool down

   Keep the doors closed and give the refrigerator up to 24 hours to return to set temperatures.

If PO keeps coming back without any power cut, the outlet, power cord or main control may be at fault. Have an electrician check the outlet first, then book appliance service.
