What the 63 code means
Error 63 on a Fujitsu mini-split is an inverter error. Fujitsu says the outdoor main board has received error information from the inverter (or transistor) board that drives the compressor. The lamps show 6 operation blinks and 3 timer blinks.
Inverter mini-splits vary the compressor speed using an inverter board, which turns household power into a variable-frequency supply. If that board detects a problem, it reports it to the main board, which shows error 63 and stops the compressor.
Fujitsu's steps are to reset the power at the disconnect and then check the plugs on the inverter board for loose connections. If those are fine, a technician will test the board and compressor.
Common causes
Listed from most to least common.
- Power surge, brownout or brief outage
- Loose plug on the inverter board
- Inverter board fault
- Compressor fault putting stress on the inverter
How to fix the 63 code
Unplug the air conditioner or switch it off at the breaker before removing any panel or filter.
Step 1: Reset at the disconnect
Switch off the outdoor disconnect and the breaker for 5 minutes, then turn them back on. Fujitsu's first step for 63 is to reset power at the disconnect.
Step 2: Clear around the outdoor unit
Make sure nothing blocks airflow through the outdoor coil and fan. A hot inverter is more likely to trip.
Step 3: Note any power problems
Write down if lights flickered or there was a storm when the code appeared.
Step 4: Leave it off if it returns
If 63 comes back, leave the system off and book service.
How to reset the Fujitsu air conditioner
- Turn the system off with the remote or wired controller.
- Switch off the breaker for the system, and the outdoor disconnect switch if there is one. Leave the power off for at least 5 minutes.
- Restore power and turn the unit back on. The compressor normally waits a few minutes before starting, so give it time before judging.
- If the same code or blink pattern comes back, the fault is still there. Work through the fix steps above, or call a Fujitsu contractor or other licensed HVAC technician.
When to call a technician
Error 63 needs a licensed HVAC technician to check the plugs on the inverter board, test the board and check the compressor. Inverter boards hold a high-voltage charge after the power is off.
A typical repair for this code costs $400–$1500 in the US, including parts and labor. Prices vary by area and model.
Models this applies to
- Halcyon wall-mounted mini-splits (ASU indoor, AOU outdoor)
- Halcyon floor, ceiling cassette and slim duct units (AGU, AUU, ARU)
- Halcyon multi-zone systems (RLF series)
- Ducted and ceiling-suspended units (RGLX, RULX series)
Codes can differ slightly between models. Your owner's manual is the final word and is available from Fujitsu support.
Frequently asked questions
›How many blinks is error 63?
The operation lamp blinks 6 times and the timer lamp blinks 3 times, with the economy lamp flashing continuously.
›Does error 63 mean the compressor is bad?
Not usually. 63 is a report from the inverter board. Fujitsu's first checks are a power reset and loose plugs on that board.
›What is the difference between 62 and 63?
62 is the outdoor main board's own memory. 63 is the main board passing on an error from the separate inverter board.
