What the 62 code means
Error 62 on a Fujitsu mini-split is an outdoor unit main PCB error. Fujitsu says the board could not access its memory (EEPROM) after the outdoor unit started. The lamps show 6 operation blinks and 2 timer blinks, with the economy lamp flashing.
The outdoor main board keeps settings for the unit in a small memory chip called an EEPROM. If the board cannot read or write that memory after start-up, it cannot run the outdoor unit safely, so it stops and reports error 62.
A one-off 62 after a storm or outage is often cleared by a reset. If it keeps coming back, the board is usually at fault.
Common causes
Listed from most to least common.
- Power glitch, surge or voltage drop that upset the outdoor board
- Poor ground connection
- Outdoor main board failed
- Lightning or storm damage
How to fix the 62 code
Unplug the air conditioner or switch it off at the breaker before removing any panel or filter.
Step 1: Reset the power
Turn the system off, switch off the breaker and disconnect for 5 minutes, then turn them back on. Fujitsu's first step for 62 is to reset the power supply and run the unit.
Step 2: Note any power events
Did 62 appear after a storm, outage or work on your electrical panel? Tell your technician. Fujitsu lists voltage drop and poor grounding as external causes.
Step 3: Leave it off if it returns
If 62 comes back after a reset, leave the system off and book a repair.
How to reset the Fujitsu air conditioner
- Turn the system off with the remote or wired controller.
- Switch off the breaker for the system, and the outdoor disconnect switch if there is one. Leave the power off for at least 5 minutes.
- Restore power and turn the unit back on. The compressor normally waits a few minutes before starting, so give it time before judging.
- If the same code or blink pattern comes back, the fault is still there. Work through the fix steps above, or call a Fujitsu contractor or other licensed HVAC technician.
When to call a technician
If 62 repeats, a licensed HVAC technician needs to check the supply voltage and ground, then replace the outdoor main board if needed. The outdoor unit's board holds high voltage, so do not open it.
A typical repair for this code costs $400–$1200 in the US, including parts and labor. Prices vary by area and model.
Models this applies to
- Halcyon wall-mounted mini-splits (ASU indoor, AOU outdoor)
- Halcyon floor, ceiling cassette and slim duct units (AGU, AUU, ARU)
- Halcyon multi-zone systems (RLF series)
- Ducted and ceiling-suspended units (RGLX, RULX series)
Codes can differ slightly between models. Your owner's manual is the final word and is available from Fujitsu support.
Frequently asked questions
›How many blinks is error 62?
The operation lamp blinks 6 times and the timer lamp blinks twice, with the economy lamp flashing continuously.
›Does error 62 always mean a new board?
No. Fujitsu's steps start with a power reset and checking for voltage drops and a poor ground. Only if those are fine is the board replaced.
›Is error 62 covered by warranty?
The outdoor board is usually covered under Fujitsu's parts warranty if the system was registered and is within the term. Labor may not be. Check your registration and installer's warranty.
